Edda Claus is an Associate Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Department of Economics, affiliated with the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics. She also serves as Director of the Laurier Centre for Economic Research and Policy Analysis and is a Research Associate at the Australian National University’s Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis. Her research focuses on behavioral macroeconomics, monetary policy impacts, and economic activity indexes. Claus holds a B.A. (McGill), M.Sc. (Université de Montréal), and Ph.D. (Australian National University).
Her academic journey includes roles at the University of Melbourne, Trinity College Dublin, and Cambridge University. She has extensive experience in government (e.g., Australian Commonwealth Treasury) and private sector consulting. Her teaching spans macroeconomics, international finance, econometrics, and applied research methods.
Claus’s research emphasizes empirical analysis of consumer behavior, monetary policy transmission channels, and economic indicators. Recent work explores how emotions influence consumption decisions and the long-term impacts of crises like the GFC on wage expectations. She has been recognized with awards including the Wilfrid Laurier Merit Award for Research (2019) and ANU PhD Scholarship (2003–2006).
Her publications span top journals like Journal of Monetary Economics and Journal of Banking and Finance, with a focus on behavioral economics and policy analysis.
