Ed deHaan is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Washington, affiliated with the Foster School of Business. He earned a PhD in Accounting from the University of Washington (2013), an MA in Economics from San Francisco State University (2008), and a BA in Economics and Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2001).
His research focuses on capital market reactions to accounting disclosures, including studies on investor attention, media synthesis of earnings reports, and strategic timing of announcements. Key contributions examine how disclosure obfuscation, executive visibility, and hedge fund activism impact market efficiency and regulatory outcomes.
Recent work involves algorithmic journalism ("Robo-Journalism") and its effects on trading volume, as well as SAS/STATA programming tools for financial data analysis available via GitHub. His awards include dual recognitions at the Western AAA Meeting (2012) and teaching excellence accolades at Stanford (2014, 2016).
