Eckhard Priller

Eckhard Priller is a Research Fellow at the WZB (Social Science Research Center Berlin) and Head of the Completed Project Group on Civic Engagement since 2011. He also serves as a Visiting Researcher in the Research Area Markets and Choice. His work focuses on civil society, third-sector organizations, and donation topics. He leads projects such as 'Transformation of Third-Sector Organizations' (funded by the Hans-Böckler Foundation) and 'Young People in Civil Society Organizations' (funded by the Jacobs Foundation).

Priller holds a doctorate in sociology from Humboldt University Berlin (1988) and has extensive experience in empirical research methodologies. His career includes roles as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Sociology and Social Policy of the GDR Academy of Sciences (1978–1991) and teaching positions at Humboldt University's Faculty of Economics (1974–1978). He has contributed to landmark studies on social indicators, nonprofit sectors, and post-unification German social dynamics.

His research interests emphasize quantitative analysis of civic engagement patterns, organizational challenges in the nonprofit sector, and the socio-economic factors influencing donation behavior. Key publications explore structural shifts in civil society organizations, regional disparities in civic participation, and methodological innovations in engagement research.

Priller collaborates across disciplines, contributing to policy-relevant studies on resource management in NGOs and the role of youth in civil society. His work bridges academic rigor with practical insights for policymakers and nonprofit practitioners.
