Eckhard Janeba

Prof. Eckhard Janeba is a Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim, specializing in public finance, international trade, and the effects of globalization on government policy. He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Bonn (1994) and served as an academic leader at Indiana University (1994–1999) and the University of Colorado (1999–2004) before returning to Germany. Currently, he chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and is a member of the European Fiscal Board.

His research focuses on tax competition, fiscal rules, and public policy, with notable contributions to journals like the American Economic Review and Journal of Public Economics. He is affiliated with ZEW, contributing to the 'Corporate Taxation and Public Finance' research unit. Janeba advises policymakers on issues such as debt brake reforms, intergenerational fiscal contracts, and supply security strategies. His work bridges theoretical economics with practical policy design, addressing challenges like globalization’s impact on governance and sustainable public finance.
