Ebtesam Islam, MD, PhD, is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine (Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine) and serves as Associate Dean for Clinical Education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She holds an MD and PhD from TTUHSC, an MEd from Johns Hopkins University, and is currently pursuing an MBA at Texas Tech's Rawls School of Business (expected 2027).
Her research focuses on Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care interventions, and Medical Education innovation, with emphases on procedural training, healthcare disparities, and critical care diagnostics. Recent publications explore COVID-19 management, sepsis protocols, and minimally invasive techniques.
She leads major federally funded projects including:
- NIH R01 grant ($3.9M) for HIV and Severe Pulmonary Vasoconstriction (Co-Investigator)
- NSF grant ($59,688) for point-of-care additive manufacturing in healthcare (2024-2027)
