Eben Rosenthal is a surgeon-scientist and academic leader currently serving as Professor and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University. He holds the Barry and Amy Baker Chair in Laryngeal, Head and Neck Research and is Vice Chair for Education within his department. Additionally, he is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Radiology at Vanderbilt.

Rosenthal specializes in the treatment and reconstruction of head and neck cancer, with research focused on optical imaging techniques to enhance cancer detection during surgery. His work includes clinical trials on fluorescence imaging, drug delivery systems, and molecular imaging for cancer diagnostics. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications.
Recent research highlights include advancements in fluorescence-guided surgery for tumor margin assessment, sentinel lymph node biopsy using magnetic nanoparticles, and molecular imaging applications for predicting therapeutic responses. His innovations aim to improve surgical precision and postoperative outcomes for head and neck cancer patients.

Rosenthal has mentored numerous trainees and has held leadership roles at Stanford Cancer Center and the University of Alabama Birmingham prior to joining Vanderbilt. His laboratory, the Barry and Amy Baker Laboratory, drives translational research in head and neck oncology.
