ELENA DE LAS MERCEDES ALONSO PRIETO

ELENA DE LAS MERCEDES ALONSO PRIETO is a full-time Professor at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering within the College of Mining Engineering at the University of Vigo. She is affiliated with the research group GESSMin (Gestión Segura e Sostible de Recursos Minerais), focusing on sustainable mineral resource management and geotechnical challenges.

• Education: PhD from University of Vigo (2002) with the thesis Curvas convergencia-confinamiento; resolución numérica y aplicación a macizos rocosos con comportamiento elastoplástico con reblandecimiento, supervised by Dr. Leandro Alejano Monge and Dr./a. Fernando Varas Mérida.

Her research interests align with rock mechanics, numerical modeling, and environmental engineering in mining contexts. She operates at the Vigo campus and is associated with the Center for Research in Industrial Technologies, Energy, and Processes.
