Eleanor J. Blair is a Full Professor at Western Carolina University (WCU), based in the School of Teaching and Learning within the College of Education and Allied Professions. She specializes in the foundations of education, teaching courses on curriculum, assessment, teacher leadership, and the history/philosophy of education. Her work extends internationally through WCU’s Jamaica program.
Dr. Blair holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, alongside an MS in Educational Psychology and a BS in Special Education. Her research employs qualitative methodologies and critical pedagogical frameworks to explore teaching, learning, and leadership in cross-cultural contexts, with a focus on teacher agency, Caribbean education systems, and the sociocultural dimensions of educational policy.
Her notable publications include books such as Jamaican Teachers, Jamaican Schools (2023) and Handbook on Caribbean Education (2021), which examine educational dynamics in the Caribbean. She has also authored works on teacher moonlighting and comparative teacher leadership narratives across England, Jamaica, and the U.S.
Since 2005, Dr. Blair has taught predominantly online, emphasizing accessible and innovative educational delivery. Her work bridges academic research with practical teaching, often addressing the intersection of popular culture, place, and teacher preparation.
