E. Groot Jebbink is an Assistant Professor at the Multi-Modality Medical Imaging (M3i) group within the Department of Biomedical Imaging & Sensing at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Twente. He maintains an active secondment at the Department of Vascular Surgery, Rijnstate Hospital Arnhem, bridging engineering and clinical vascular surgery.
Education:
- PhD in Technical Medicine (2017), University of Twente, supervised by Prof. Michel Reijnen and Prof. Michel Versluis.
- Technical Medicine degree (2006-2013), University of Twente.
His research focuses on cardiovascular biomechanics, specifically blood flow-stent interactions to enhance stent durability and patient outcomes in vascular pathologies. He employs laser particle image velocimetry for in vitro flow simulation using realistic phantoms and high-frame-rate contrast-enhanced ultrasound for in vivo blood flow quantification. His work targets aortoiliac peripheral arterial disease and abdominal aortic aneurysms, combining translational engineering with clinical vascular surgery.
Publications reveal a strong emphasis on developing novel imaging modalities for patient-specific cardiovascular characterization, mechanical analysis of stent-graft systems, and real-time blood flow dynamics. Key themes include biomechanical modeling, polymer-stent interactions, and advanced ultrasound techniques for clinical diagnostics.
Current Projects and Grants:
- Stichting Lijf en Leven project: Blood flow and disease progression in aortoiliac peripheral arterial disease.
- ADEAR: In vivo endograft deformation and blood flow interaction (funded by Connecting Industries Call/Terumo Aortic).
- 2ACP: Polymer visualization optimization and stent-graft mechanics (funded by TKI-LSH PPP/Health Holland/TripleMed Bv).
- Ultra-x-treme: 3D ultrasound blood flow quantification with biomechanical models (funded by NWO Perspectief/industry partners).
- Vortecs: 2D blood flow quantification with/without contrast agents (funded by NWO OTP/Philips/Medtronic).
Dr. Groot Jebbink operates within the TechMed Centre ecosystem, utilizing the Physics of Fluids group's in vitro facilities and Rijnstate Hospital's clinical infrastructure. His work integrates flow circuit simulations, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and real-time deformation analysis to advance vascular intervention technologies.
