Dylan Gwynn-Jones is a Reader at Aberystwyth University's Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), with a career spanning over 25 years. He previously held post-doctoral positions at the Universities of Sheffield (1994-1999) and Manchester (1992-1994), focusing on European projects related to elevated CO2 and UV stress impacts. He earned his Ph.D. at Bangor University (1989-1992) in collaboration with CEH Bush, Edinburgh, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (2005).
Research interests: His work centers on plant responses to environmental stressors, including elevated CO2, UV radiation, and temperature changes. Key projects involve
- Subarctic heath communities in Swedish Lapland;
- Control of invasive Rhododendron ponticum in Snowdonia;
- Climate-smart grasslands in Wales;
- Hydroponic stress tools for crop quality;
- Circular economics in agriculture.
Scientific awards:
- Excellence in Teaching Award (2004);
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2005).
Academic contributions: He has published extensively on plant stress tolerance, soil microbial dynamics, and sustainable agricultural systems, with recent works focusing on duckweed for wastewater treatment and UV photoreceptor mechanisms. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly climate action and life on land.
