Dr Dylan Cowley is a Research Fellow & Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Queensland's School of the Environment. Affiliated with the Marine Ecosystem Monitoring Lab, Earth Observation Research Centre, and the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science, his work focuses on coastal geomorphology, wave dynamics, and tropical coastal processes. He holds a PhD from The University of Queensland (2023), specializing in historic coastal change and future projections.
His research investigates tropical and subtropical coastal systems, combining fieldwork and earth observation data to analyze sediment budgets, coastal vulnerability, and wave climate impacts. Notable themes include sediment transport dynamics, coral reef wave transformation, and long-term shoreline changes. Dr Cowley has contributed to interdisciplinary projects like MATLAB educational resources and collaborative datasets for coastal management.
Publications span academic journals (e.g., Marine Geology, Geomorphology), conferences, and public engagement via The Conversation. He emphasizes translating scientific findings into actionable insights for coastal resilience and climate adaptation.
