معرفی
Dwight Mazmanian serves as Professor in the Department of Psychology and Adjunct Professor in Health Sciences at Lakehead University. He directs the Northern Ontario Gambling Research Hub (funded by Gambling Research Exchange Ontario) and conducts primary research through the Health, Hormones, and Behaviour Lab.
His academic credentials include:
- M.A. and Ph.D. from University of Western Ontario
- Registered Clinical Psychologist (C. Psych.) in Ontario
Research spans clinical psychology with intensive focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chronic pain, and problem gambling. He integrates evolutionary psychology, biological bases of social behaviour, and psychopharmacology within a scientist-practitioner framework emphasizing cognitive-behavioural/biological approaches. Current work leverages the Gambling Research Hub for Ontario-specific addiction studies while maintaining broader psychopathology investigations.
Professor Mazmanian actively supervises graduate students, including SSHRC Storytelling Finalist Casey Oliver (April 2025). He accepts 1-2 new graduate students annually with strict expectations: research must be the top priority, thesis work starts immediately, and students participate in multiple projects. Undergraduate opportunities exist for exceptional Psychology students through Honors Thesis, Research Opportunity, and Volunteer Assistant positions requiring strong academic records and research-aligned statements.
