Dusty Gardiner is a Researcher and Manager of the Biomanufacturing Industry Development Centre (BIDC) at the CSIR's Biotechnology Innovation Centre. He has over 30 years of experience in biotechnology, with a focus on translating research into market-ready technologies and products. His career spans roles at Rhodes University, AECI R&D Department, SA Bioproducts, and CSIR Biosciences.

Gardiner's research interests include bioprocessing, stem cell biotechnology, and combating diseases like malaria and trypanosomal parasites through industrial partnerships. The BIDC under his leadership leverages South Africa's bio-economy potential, collaborating with academic institutions, SMMEs, and startups.
At the Biotechnology Innovation Centre, Gardiner works closely with the BioSENS Research Group as an Associate, contributing to malaria diagnostics and biosensor development. His career highlights include leadership roles at AECI R&D Department (1990-1996), Chief Scientist at SA Bioproducts (1997-1998), and Programme Manager at CSIR Biosciences (1999-2013) before assuming his current position.
