Dr. Durell M. Callier serves as an Associate Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Delaware, within the College of Arts & Sciences. His work integrates academic scholarship with artistic practice, driven by Black feminist and queer methodologies to examine race, gender, sexuality, and culture in Black communities, particularly among youth.

Callier co-founded Hill L. Waters (HLW), an arts-based research collaborative that explores Black queer world-making since 2012. Their projects include performances like when the stakes are too high (2018) and exhibitions at institutions such as the Krannert Art Museum. His scholarly publications include co-authored books like Who Look at Me?!... (Brill, 2019) and Performative Intergenerational Dialogues... (Routledge, 2022), alongside articles in journals such as American Quarterly and Cultural Studies ↔ Critical Methodologies.
Current initiatives include a forthcoming book on educultural practices and Black queer youth, alongside visual art projects celebrating Black queer life. Callier’s work emphasizes creative methodologies to reimagine liberation and community resilience.
