Dung Jidong is Senior Lecturer in Cross-Cultural Mental Health at the University of Manchester's Division of Psychology & Mental Health and Senior Research Fellow at Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust. A Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, his research includes randomized trials on culturally adapted psychological interventions for African-Caribbean populations.
His work examines mental health disorders across DSM-5 axes in UK, African and Caribbean contexts. Research projects span Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados. Jidong received the 2022 University of East London Diversity Award for research impact and won British Psychological Society poster prizes in 2017-2018.
Recent publications analyze gender-based violence responses, mental health promotion in sub-Saharan Africa, interventions for self-harm/suicidal ideation, and reintegration programs for former combatants. Methodologies include mixed-methods designs, systematic reviews, and participatory action research.
