معرفی
Duncan Sparrow is an Associate Professor and BHF Senior Basic Science Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. His research investigates how genetic and environmental factors perturb embryonic heart development, with focus on congenital heart disease origins.
Education includes a PhD from the University of Adelaide in tissue-specific transcription regulation, postdoctoral work at the National Institute for Medical Research on Xenopus heart development, and senior research at Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute studying congenital malformations.
Research interests span:
- Maternal-fetal health impacts on cardiovascular development
- Genetic pathways in heart morphogenesis
- Environmental influences on congenital defects
Publications demonstrate persistent focus on developmental mechanisms using mouse models and human epidemiological data, with recent work linking maternal anaemia to congenital heart defects through large-scale clinical studies.
Awards include the prestigious BHF Senior Basic Science Research Fellowship supporting his investigations into congenital heart disease mechanisms.
Leads the Sparrow Group, mentoring graduate students and postdocs in developmental biology techniques. Research is funded by British Heart Foundation, Additional Ventures, and John Fell Fund.
