Duncan Ian Tarrant is a Researcher (Research Associate) at the University of Bayreuth's Faculty of Languages & Literatures, affiliated with the Literatures in African Languages department. He holds positions in the Cluster of Excellence: Africa Multiple and as a Swahili Tutor. Currently completing his PhD on Swahili Literature through the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), his research focuses on Swahili poetry and novels, with a geographic emphasis on East Africa and the Indian Ocean region.

- BA in African Languages and Cultures (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London)
- Year of study at State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and Kenyatta University, Nairobi
- MA in African Language Studies (University of Bayreuth, 2019)
Research priorities include publishing an English translation of Euphrase Kezilahabi’s Nagona and ongoing translations of Kithaka wa Mberia’s poetry. His expertise spans Swahili literature, Bantu languages, Arabic linguistics, and sociolinguistic analysis.
