معرفی
Dugald Black Duncan is a Professor in the School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, with a primary affiliation in the Mathematics Department. His research focuses on numerical approximation of time-dependent partial differential equations (PDEs) and integral equations, including Volterra equations and wave propagation problems. He holds administrative roles such as Co-Director of the Maxwell Institute Graduate School (MAC-MIGS) and Trustee of the James Clerk Maxwell Foundation.
Education:
- BSc in Applied Mathematics, University of St Andrews (1975-1979)
- PhD in Numerical Analysis, University of Dundee (1979-1982)
Research Interests: His work emphasizes numerical methods for PDEs and integral equations, with applications to wave scattering and coagulation-fragmentation dynamics. Recent contributions include positivity analysis of singular operators and habitat distribution modeling in wildlife disease systems.
Grants & Advising:
- Scientific Director, Numerical Algorithms and Intelligent Software (NAIS) Centre
- Previously led the Scottish Mathematical Sciences Training Centre and Maxwell Institute Graduate School
- Teaches advanced courses like Numerical ODEs and SMSTC Applied Mathematics Methods
Labs/Teams: Active in MAC-MIGS, NAIS, and the Centre for Analysis and Nonlinear PDEs, focusing on collaborative research in applied mathematics and computational science.
