Dubravko Babić is an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He holds a Dipl. Ing. from the University of Zagreb (1982), an M.Sc. (1984), and a Ph.D. (1995) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). His career spans academia and industry, including roles at Avantek, Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, and leadership positions in startups like Alvésta Corporation and Group4 Labs.
Research focuses on high-speed communications components, semiconductor devices (e.g., VCSELs, GaN-on-diamond technology), and optical systems. Notable achievements include the world's first room-temperature 1550 nm VCSEL (1995) and GaN-on-Diamond X-band amplifier (2009).
