Dubravko Babić is an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He holds a Dipl. Ing. from the University of Zagreb (1982), an M.Sc. (1984), and a Ph.D. (1995) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). His career spans academia and industry, including roles at Avantek, Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, and leadership positions in startups like Alvésta Corporation and Group4 Labs.
Research focuses on high-speed communications components, semiconductor devices (e.g., VCSELs, GaN-on-diamond technology), and optical systems. He has authored over 120 publications, 30 patents, and achieved a Google Scholar h-index of 30. Notable achievements include the world's first room-temperature 1550 nm VCSEL (1995) and GaN-on-Diamond X-band amplifier (2009).
His work bridges academic innovation and industrial applications, with recent contributions to satellite optical communication, RF receiver design, and semiconductor reliability. He advises on advanced optoelectronic systems and collaborates with global institutions.
