Professor Duanfang Lu is a leading academic in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Sydney's School of Architecture, Design and Planning. She holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor of Architecture from Tsinghua University. Her research focuses on modern architectural history, urban planning in China, and the intersection of architecture with cultural identity and development. She is a member of the China Studies Centre and has received prestigious awards including the Best Article Prize from Planning Perspectives and an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship.
Her work explores topics such as socialist urbanism, Third World modernism, and the socio-spatial dynamics of Chinese cities. Notable publications include Remaking Chinese Urban Form (2011) and Third World Modernism (2010). She has secured major grants from the ARC, US SSRC, and Getty Foundation, and her research addresses urban sustainability, housing policies, and the impact of global pandemics on community spaces.
