Michele Bonino

Michele Bonino is a Full Professor and Director of the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he also serves as a member of the Academic Senate and the University Committee for Research, Technology Transfer, and Services to the Territory. He is actively involved in teaching, research, and international collaboration, particularly in urban design and architectural composition.

His research interests include urban design, reuse of industrial heritage, contemporary Chinese urbanism, and sustainable cities. His work often bridges Europe and China, with significant projects in Ethiopia and Italy. He has been a Visiting Professor and Researcher at Tsinghua University, Beijing, and curates the 'Memory and Regeneration' column in World Architecture since 2015.

His recent publications explore the evolution of Chinese cities, the integration of AI in urban space, and the transformation of industrial sites. These works reflect a strong trend toward interdisciplinary, globally engaged urban scholarship with practical applications in heritage, public space, and sustainable development.

He advises numerous PhD students in the Architecture. History and Design program and leads multiple research grants and commercial projects, including urban redevelopment in Udine, Fergana, and Nha Trang. He is the Scientific Director of several international agreements and collaborative programs, particularly those involving transnational education and urban innovation.

He is a key member of the Sys - Systemic Design Lab (DAD), which fosters interdisciplinary research in urban and architectural design, and has led major exhibitions such as China Goes Urban at the Turin Museums Foundation.
