Duane Long is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Iowa State University, where he has served since Fall 2024. Previously, he worked at the State University of New York at Buffalo from 2019 to 2025 as a Clinical Assistant Professor. His research focuses on Ancient Philosophy, particularly Aristotle's work, and contemporary Ethics. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin (2017), where his dissertation analyzed G.E.M. Anscombe’s Intention through Aristotelian commentary traditions.
Dr. Long teaches courses on Contemporary Moral Problems, Professional Ethics, Environmental Ethics, Medical Ethics, Feminist Philosophy, and Ancient Philosophy. His publications include articles in Ancient Philosophy, Apeiron, Inquiry, and Rhizomata, exploring themes like deliberation necessity in Aristotle, rationality of desire, and desire-object relationships. His scholarship bridges ancient and modern philosophical inquiry, particularly in action theory and ethics.
