Duane Juang

Duane Juang serves as Assistant Professor of Engineering in Biology at Brandeis University, where he bridges engineering, chemistry, and biology to develop accessible tools for health research and diagnostics through novel assay platforms.

His research program focuses on creating simple tools using physical phenomena (fluidics, magnetics) and chemistries (surface, biomolecular) for biological discovery. Key initiatives include: developing high-throughput microbial screening for antibiotic discovery, studying microbial community interactions for therapeutic applications like Clostridium difficile infection treatment, and engineering point-of-care diagnostics with quantum magnetic sensing for low-abundance biomarker detection without complex instrumentation.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals consistent advancement in microfluidic technologies for health applications, spanning microbial ecology platforms, enzymatic reaction acceleration, and integrated diagnostic systems for pathogens. His work demonstrates a translational approach from fundamental microbial studies to practical diagnostic solutions addressing global health challenges.
