Drew Leder is a Professor of Western and Eastern Philosophy at Loyola University Maryland, holding both an MD from Yale University School of Medicine (1986) and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from SUNY Stony Brook (1987). His work bridges phenomenology, cross-cultural spirituality, and social justice through lenses of medicine, aging, and incarceration.

Research interests span philosophy of the body, cross-cultural spirituality, critical analysis of medical systems, and embodied injustice in carceral and aging contexts. His recent The Healing Body (2023) synthesizes continental philosophy with Buddhist/Hindu/Taoist insights to address healing when medical cure is unavailable.
Literature reviews highlight his contributions to phenomenology of chronic illness, existential analysis of incarceration, and rehabilitation of elder life. He introduced the interactive Chessboard of Healing framework to demonstrate coping strategies during bodily limitations.
