Douglas Walsh is a Professor in the Department of Entomology at Washington State University (WSU) and serves as the research director of the Environmental and Agricultural Entomology Laboratory at the Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, Washington. He also acts as the extension integrated pest management (IPM) coordinator for Washington State and liaises with the USDA IR-4 Program.
- Education: Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of California at Davis
Dr. Walsh’s research and extension program focuses on IPM strategies for crops such as hops, alfalfa, grapes, and mint, as well as livestock. His work includes environmental impact studies on pollinators like alfalfa leafcutting bees and alkali bees. He has contributed to reducing annual insecticide use in the Pacific Northwest by over 100,000 pounds. He participates in advisory roles for organizations such as the National Alfalfa and Forage Alliance, Salmon Safe, and the LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) program.
