Michelle Moyer is a Professor and Viticulture Extension Specialist at Washington State University (WSU), affiliated with the Department of Viticulture and Enology. She holds adjunct positions in the Departments of Plant Pathology and Botany at WSU and Oregon State University. Her academic career includes a PhD in Plant Pathology from Cornell University (2011) and a BS in Genetics and Plant Pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2005). Her work focuses on applied research and Extension programs addressing vineyard pest management, disease control, and sustainable practices. She leads the USDA-NIFA-SCRI-funded FRAME Network project, aiming to improve disease management strategies in vineyards.
Dr. Moyer’s research integrates foundational plant physiology with practical vineyard applications. Key areas include fungicide resistance mitigation, nematode management, and sprayer technology optimization. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and Extension publications, including guides on powdery mildew management and vineyard establishment. Her awards reflect her impact, such as the 2024 APS Excellence in Extension Award and recognition for interdisciplinary teamwork in spray application.
As an educator, she teaches courses in viticulture and mentors graduate students. Her lab at WSU-IAREC collaborates with industry stakeholders and national organizations like the American Society for Enology and Viticulture, where she currently serves as Interim President. She also contributes to policy and education initiatives through roles in the National Grape Research Alliance and Washington State Grape Society.
