Douglas Reid is an Adjunct Professor at Queen's University's Smith School of Business, cross-appointed with Cornell University’s Johnson School of Business. He specializes in business strategy, intercompany alliances, and pedagogy in management. His research focuses on alliance dynamics, large-scale alliance evolution, and cross-sectoral partnering, using a single-industry database he developed. He teaches strategy, strategy implementation, and global strategy across undergraduate and MBA programs.
Education: PhD (Strategy & International Business, 2006) from Ivey School of Business, MBA (1993, Rotman School), MPA (1996, Queen’s), BSc (1980, U of Toronto).
Research Interests: Reid’s work explores strategic alliances in industries like aviation and technology. He has published in the International Journal of Management Reviews and contributed chapters to books like Managing for Success. His research emphasizes practical applications, including alliance measurement frameworks and the role of embeddedness in partnership success.
Awards: Multiple Distinguished Faculty Teaching Fellowships (2005, 2008, 2011) for his contributions to business education. He has also won case competitions and grants, including the E² QUATE Project award (2009).
Advising & Grants: Advises companies in Canada and the U.S. Previously served as a director of an Alberta energy company. His grants include a $1.5M ORDCF-funded project on high-growth companies (1999).
Affiliations: Member of Academy of International Business, Academy of Management, and Institute of Corporate Directors. Serves on Queen’s Provost’s Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning.
