Douglas R. Guilbeault is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Previously, he held roles at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania. His research integrates computational social science, cognitive science, and organizational studies to explore cultural dynamics, communication networks, and algorithmic bias. Guilbeault co-directs the Berkeley-Stanford Computational Culture Lab and is a founder of comp-syn, focusing on computational synesthesia.
Education includes a PhD in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania (2020), an MA in Cognitive Linguistics from the University of British Columbia (2015), and a BA in Philosophy/Rhetoric from the University of Waterloo (2013). He has received awards such as the Best Paper Prize at the International Conference on Computational Social Science and the STARTs Prize for Social Good.
His research highlights include studies on gender bias in online images, the impact of communication networks on medical decision-making, and the social construction of categories. He has published in top journals like Nature, PNAS, and Management Science, and his work appears in media outlets like The Atlantic and Harvard Business Review.
