Douglas Kriner is the Clinton Rossiter Professor in American Institutions at Cornell University's Department of Government within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on presidential power, congressional investigations, separation of powers, and science/health policy. He holds a PhD from Harvard and undergraduate degrees from MIT.
Key works include The Myth of the Imperial Presidency (2020), Investigating the President (2016), and The Casualty Gap (2010). Awards include the Richard E. Neustadt Award and D.B. Hardeman Prize. His research spans American Political Science Review, New England Journal of Medicine, and Science Advances.
He teaches courses on the presidency, legislative politics, and quantitative methods. His work analyzes how public opinion constrains executive actions and how Congress influences military policy through informal mechanisms.
