Joel Sievert is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia (2015) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University.
- Research Focus: American political institutions, congressional politics, presidency, historical political economy, electoral politics, and separation of powers.
- Teaching: Offers graduate courses in Executive Politics, Electoral Politics, and Pro-Seminar in American Politics; undergraduate courses on Presidency, Congress, and American Government.
His recent publications in journals like Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, and Presidential Studies Quarterly examine topics such as executive-legislative dynamics, nationalization of elections, and historical institutional development. He co-authored Nationalized Politics: Evaluating Electoral Politics Across Time (Oxford University Press, 2024) and has a forthcoming book with University of Michigan Press on early U.S. Senate politics.
