Dr. Douglas Furton is a Professor of Physics at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Toledo (1993) and has extensive teaching experience in physics and astronomy. His research focuses on observational and laboratory astrophysics, particularly interstellar dust grains and solid-state physics. Furton has collaborated with students on projects funded by grants like the Michigan Space Grant Consortium and GVSU’s Summer Scholars program. He also contributes to astronomy education through a weekly column in the Grand Haven Tribune and advocates for integrating medical physics into GVSU’s curriculum.
