Dr. Douglas Forsyth is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Bowling Green State University’s College of Arts and Sciences. He holds affiliations with Harvard University’s Center for European Studies and has previously taught at Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His academic focus lies in Policy History, Comparative Modern European and Economic History, and Modern Italy.

Dr. Forsyth’s research explores the institutionalization of information flows in economies since 1870, monetary and financial policy in Liberal Italy, and transatlantic economic governance. His work bridges political economy and historical preservation, particularly in American urban architecture.
His publications span economic history and architectural essays, with recent emphasis on productivity gaps between the U.S. and Europe. His 2003 edited volume The Origins of National Financial Systems and 1993 monograph The Crisis of Liberal Italy remain influential.
