Douglas Dyer is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Division of Immunology, Immunity to Infection and Respiratory Medicine. His research focuses on understanding how chemokines and the endothelial glycocalyx regulate leukocyte recruitment and migration in inflammatory diseases and cancer. He leads a lab combining biochemistry, biophysics, and in vivo models to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes, leveraging facilities at the Wellcome Centre for Cell-Matrix Research.
Research Interests: Dyer investigates the glycocalyx's role as a barrier modulating leukocyte-endothelial interactions, chemokine signaling in inflammation, and their implications for diseases like cancer, neuroinflammation, and radiation toxicity. His work emphasizes translational approaches to identify therapeutic targets.
Publications highlight studies on blood-brain barrier dynamics, monocyte recruitment in radiotherapy, and chemokine-glycosaminoglycan interactions. Collaborations span immunology, neurology, and oncology fields. He contributed to a systematic review on brain irradiation effects and led a project on spatially-resolved -omics analysis using laser capture dissection.
Key contributions include defining CXCL4 transport mechanisms and TSG-6's role in modulating chemokine activity. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing health and well-being (SDG 3) and innovation (SDG 9).
