Douglas Causey is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska. He holds a Ph.D. (1982) and M.S. (1980) in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona, an M.S. (1977) from UC Irvine, and a B.S. (1974) with Honors from UC Irvine.
His research addresses complex ecological phenomena associated with Arctic climate change through interdisciplinary One-Health frameworks. Current projects examine: marine bird community dynamics in Aleutian and Beringian islands; coastal ecosystem changes in Northwest Greenland; behavioral ecology of Alaskan bats; viral disease ecology of Little Brown Bats; Arctic zoonotic disease; and micro/nanoplastic pollution.
Major grants include:
- $15.8M from US Dept of Homeland Security for Arctic Domain Awareness Center
- $449,572 from US BOEM for seabird foraging/reproduction studies
- $276,727 from USACE for Tricolored Blackbird ecology
- $93,307 from NSF for IARPC Remote Arctic Research
He directs the Causey Lab which employs field-based and molecular approaches to understand climate impacts on Arctic systems.
