Doug Degenstein

Doug Degenstein is Professor and EP Undergraduate Chair in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics at the University of Saskatchewan. His research focuses on atmospheric remote sensing through optical methods, particularly satellite-based instrumentation for studying atmospheric composition and processes.

Key research areas include analysis of OSIRIS satellite data to investigate dynamics and photochemistry in the upper troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere; retrieval of atmospheric aerosol properties through light scattering analysis; and Stratosphere Troposphere Exchange Processes (STEP) examining interactions in the Upper Troposphere Lower Stratosphere region.

Research integrates atmospheric physics, optical engineering, and data analysis to advance understanding of atmospheric systems and their changes over time. Current instrumentation development aims to enhance measurement capabilities for aerosol characterization and atmospheric composition monitoring.
