Dr. Dorothee Risse is a Lecturer at the Institute for German and Dutch Philology, part of the Department of Philosophy and Humanities at Freie Universität Berlin. She coordinates the MA Applied Literary Studies - Contemporary Literature program and has been affiliated with the university since 2001.
Education:
- PhD in Romance Literary Studies (French, Italian) from Technische Universität Dresden (1999)
- Studium der Romanistik und Erziehungswissenschaft (1984-1992) at Saarbrücken and Berlin
- Research stay at École Normale Supérieure Paris (1992-1993)
Her research focuses on contemporary French literature, particularly homoerotic themes and feminist literary criticism. She has explored the intersection of desire, physicality, and authorship in François Mauriac's works, and contributed to Franco-German literary dialogues through collaborative publications.
Recent publications analyze literary agents in the French publishing industry and the evolving dynamics of authorial representation. She has also co-edited volumes on Berlin's cultural transformation and poetic perspectives across the Rhine.
As program coordinator, she has been instrumental in designing and managing the MA Applied Literary Studies since 2001. Her editorial contributions include works on gender studies, modernist themes, and intertextual analysis.
