Doris Schweitzer

Professor Dr. Doris Schweitzer holds the Professorship for Sociology with a focus on Sociological Theory and Theory History at the Institute of Sociology, Department of Social Sciences, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. Research Interests include sociological theory, history of sociology, legal sociology, and interdisciplinary explorations of climate change and ecological crises. She investigates how sociological frameworks intersect with legal systems in addressing environmental challenges, particularly through her involvement in the DFG network "Recht im Anthropozän" (Law in the Anthropocene).

Recent Publications focus on foundational sociological theorists (Eugen Ehrlich, Émile Durkheim, Ferdinand Tönnies) and their relevance to legal sociology. Her articles analyze the historical and theoretical underpinnings of sociological and legal responses to societal transformations.

Lecture Series Participation: She co-organized and participated in interdisciplinary lecture series on "Climate in Court" (2023–2025), addressing climate litigation, rights of nature, and legal responses to ecological crises. Collaborated with institutions like the Max-Planck-Institut für Rechtsgeschichte und Rechtstheorie and GRADE initiative "Trans Studies".
