Doris Bergen is the Chancellor Rose and Ray Wolfe Professor of Holocaust Studies at the University of Toronto, affiliated with the Department of History and the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a member of the Academic Committee of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
Research Focus: Her work centers on the Holocaust and genocide studies, with a particular emphasis on gender, sex, and sexuality. She explores these themes through diverse sources, including survivor testimonies, Nazi documents, and ghetto records, to understand perpetrator motivations and Jewish victims' efforts to preserve community and dignity.
