She holds a joint research scholar position at Stanford Center on China's Economy and Institutions (SCCEI). Previously, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Stanford SCCEI and lecturer at KU Leuven Chinese Studies Group.
Dr. Emmers completed her Ph.D. in Economics at KU Leuven's LICOS Centre for Institutions and Economic Performance, and holds dual Master's degrees in Sinology (MA) and Research in Economics (MSc) from KU Leuven, both earned magna cum laude. Her interdisciplinary background bridges Chinese area studies and economic methodology.
Her research focuses on human capital formation and social mobility in China, employing field experiments to evaluate early childhood interventions in rural communities. Current projects include developing scalable assessment tools for early skill formation and investigating multigenerational caregiving dynamics. Key research areas encompass:
- Longitudinal analysis of cognitive capability transmission
- Psychosocial interventions for vulnerable children
- Technology-enabled skill assessment systems
- Policy frameworks for common prosperity
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on human capital development through cluster-randomized trials in rural China, with recent work expanding into screen exposure impacts and digital learning efficacy. Research consistently addresses disparities in resource-limited regions through mixed-methods approaches.
Dr. Emmers holds multiple institutional leadership roles including membership in the Faculty Councils of Arts and Economics & Business. She directs significant research initiatives such as 'Big Data on Little People' (2023-2028) exploring early skill assessment, and 'All Hands on Deck' (2025-2028) studying multigenerational caregiving models.
