Prof. Dr. Doreen Reifegerste is a Professor of Health Communication at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Bielefeld since 2021. She holds leadership roles including Head of the Bachelor Health Communication program and Co-editor of the European Journal of Health Communication. Her academic service includes membership in the Environmental Public Health Commission for the Robert Koch Institute.
- Education: Master's degree in Communication Science (TU Dresden, 2003) and PhD in evolutionary prevention messaging (University of Erfurt, 2012)
- Professional History: Research roles at Universities of Erfurt, Hanover, Jena, and Dresden prior to current professorship
Her research focuses on responsibility framing in health contexts (dementia, diabetes, depression), proxy health information seeking, digital health interventions (e.g., child poisoning prevention apps), and gender-specific communication in suicide prevention. A key theme explores how social networks and media influence health behaviors.
Notable projects include the DFG-funded DISELMA (digital self-management support) and RE-MEND (mental health resilience during endocrine-sensitive stages). She develops e-learning programs for healthcare communication and investigates culturally sensitive cancer prevention materials for migrant populations.
