Donna Jones is a Senior Lecturer and social work academic at London Metropolitan University, where she also serves as Interim Head of the Subject Area encompassing Community Development and Leadership, Social Work, Youth, and Refugee Programmes. A proud alumna of the university, she transitioned from roles in publishing and activism to social work education, driven by her commitment to social justice and structural change. Her career reflects a dedication to empowering students from diverse backgrounds through inclusive pedagogy.
Education: Donna studied social work at London Met, balancing studies with raising her young son. Her academic journey was shaped by mentors who nurtured her creativity and critical thinking, mirroring her own approach to teaching.
Research interests center on social justice, community activism, and arts-based methodologies in social work practice. Her work integrates lived experiences of marginalization, particularly as a Black lesbian woman, to challenge institutional racism and promote inclusive educational environments.
Advising & Leadership: As Head of Social Work, Donna oversees curricula and student support, emphasizing practical training for diverse communities. She has pioneered initiatives addressing systemic inequities in social work education and practice.
Lifestyle & Advocacy: Beyond academia, Donna is an avid cyclist and former football player, co-founding Phoenix Women’s Football Club. Her activism spans anti-racism and LGBTQ+ rights, reflected in her teaching and community engagement. She remains deeply connected to London’s arts scene, drawing inspiration from theater and performance for her pedagogical approaches.
