Donghyun Kang

Donghyun Kang is a Researcher and Postdoctoral Scholar at the Knowledge Lab, University of Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago (advisor: James Evans), an M.A. in Sociology, and a B.A. in Business Administration from Seoul National University. His research integrates computational methods with sociological theory to study the emergence, diffusion, and collapse of scientific and civic ideas. Key foci include socio-epistemic bubbles, biomedical knowledge dynamics, and the impact of technological artifacts like GitHub repositories on research dissemination.

His work bridges computational large-scale analysis with sociological frameworks, addressing topics such as scientific bubbles, randomized clinical trials’ socio-epistemic influences, and open science practices. He has contributed to journals like Nature Human Behaviour and Information Processing & Management, with ongoing projects on machine learning’s role in social sciences and the efficiency of biomedical research funding.
