Dong Chen

Dong Chen, M.D., Ph.D. is a distinguished Hematopathologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, specializing in hematologic diseases. He holds appointments in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology within the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Chen serves on multiple committees including the DLMP Finance Committee as Chair, the Academic Appointment and Promotions Committee, and the CAP publication committee as Vice-Chair. His professional memberships include active participation in the College of American Pathologists and the Myeloid Working Group at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Chen's research interests span bone marrow pathology of various benign and malignant hematologic diseases, laboratory testing of hemostatic and thrombotic disorders, inherited platelet disorders, and esoteric laboratory testing of hematologic diseases. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of Von Willebrand disease, mastocytosis, Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome, and myeloid neoplasms. His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on molecular diagnostics, risk stratification models, and innovative approaches to laboratory testing in hematology.

Dr. Chen has received numerous scientific awards including the World Federation of Hemophilia Travel Grant Award (2019), Teacher of the Year Award from the Mayo Fellows' Association (2018), and the Doctor of the Year from the Hermansky Pudlak Syndrome Network (2016). His early career was recognized with the Best Abstract Award from the College of American Pathologists (2005) and the Best Turn Around Time Award from the University of Wisconsin Hospital (2003).
