Donata Marletta is a Professor at the University of Catania, affiliated with the Animal Production department. She teaches courses in Biotecnologies and Agricultural Biotechnology at both Bachelor's and Master's levels. Her academic roles include leadership as President of the LM7 Master's degree program (2012–2016) and ongoing membership in PhD teaching boards for Biotechnology and Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Science.
Her research focuses on biotechnology applied to animal genetics, molecular characterization of livestock biodiversity, and non-bovine milk proteomics. She specializes in assessing genetic variability using microsatellite and SNPs markers, as well as tracing livestock production traits. Her work explores hypoallergenic protein polymorphisms in goat and donkey milk and the genetic origins of Sicilian horse populations through mtDNA sequencing.
She has contributed to numerous national and European research projects, including Econogene, PRIN 2022 (ECOS), and Agritech Spoke 5. She leads the University of Catania unit for the Italian Goat Consortium, BiOvITa, and BovIta, and serves as President of the Interuniversity Center ASIZOCACLI (Adaptability of Livestock Systems to Climate Change) since 2024. She has co-authored over 100 scientific publications, with 84 in ISI journals (H-index 25 in Scopus, 2024).
Her academic service includes roles as Commissioner for National Scientific Qualification (2018–2020) and membership in editorial boards, such as the journal Animals (since 2019).
