Dr. Donald van Tol is an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Medical Sciences. His expertise spans Medical Ethics, Medical Sociology, and the sociology of healthcare, with a focus on end-of-life care, medical professional identity, and healthcare decision-making. He holds a dual appointment as a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and the Department of General Practice at the UMCG, while also serving as an ethicist on the Regional Assessment Committee for Euthanasia.
- Education: PhD in Sociology (cum laude) from the University of Groningen (2003), specializing in legal sociology and euthanasia classification. Master's in Psychology (Theory and History of Psychology).
Research interests include medical ethics frameworks, sociological dimensions of healthcare practices, and the medicalization of social issues.
