Dr. Donald Stoker is a Professor of Strategy and Policy at the U.S. Naval War College program within the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California (1999–2017). He also served as the Distinguished Visiting Fulbright Professor of Political Science at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, Austria (2017–2018). His research focuses on military strategy, U.S. Civil War history, and grand strategy, with notable contributions to strategic studies and political science.
Stoker has authored or edited eleven books, including Carl von Clausewitz: His Life and Work (2014), which is on the British Army’s professional reading list, and The Grand Design: Strategy and the US Civil War, 1861–1865 (2010), which won the Fletcher Pratt Award for the best nonfiction Civil War book of 2010. His recent works explore American grand strategy and the analysis of U.S. military engagements.
