Donald Quist is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Missouri, within the College of Arts and Science. His academic work focuses on African Diaspora Studies, Post 45 Literature, and Geopolitical Literature, alongside interdisciplinary interests in Critical Race Theory and Pop Culture. He holds a Ph.D. in English (Creative Writing) from the University of Missouri (2021), an M.F.A. in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts (2013), and a B.A. in Communications from Coker University (2006). Additionally, he holds a CELTA certificate from the University of Cambridge (2013).
Quist’s research and creative work explore themes of identity, race, and globalization through essays and fiction. He has authored multiple award-winning essay collections, including Harbors (2016) and To Those Bounded (2021), and a short story collection, For Other Ghosts (2018). His writing has been featured in AGNI, North American Review, and The Rumpus, among others.
He has received prestigious honors such as the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowship (2025), multiple Pushcart Prize nominations, and the Kimbilio Fiction Fellowship (2016). Quist is also a co-editor of Who Makes the Franchise? (2022) and creator of the PAST TEN nonfiction series.
