Donald Mitchell

Donald Mitchell is a Professor at Uppsala University's Department of Human Geography, specializing in historical-materialist analyses of political-economic determinants of landscapes, urban public spaces, and labor geographies. His research spans migrant labor in California agribusiness, protest dynamics in public spaces, and Marxist geographical theory.

Recent publications examine gig economy labor, spatial justice, and historical Swedish workers' movements. He co-edited Food Across Borders (2017) and Revolting New York (2018), with ongoing work on Mean Streets (2020) and United Farm Workers-era research.

His scholarship connects labor struggles, capitalist production of nature, and critical urban theory, challenging neoliberal spatial practices while exploring the intersection of social reproduction and algorithmic city infrastructures through migrant service workers.
