Donald M. McKale

Donald M. McKale is the Class of '41 Memorial Professor of Humanities in the Department of History at Clemson University, where he has taught since 1979. He holds a Ph.D. from Kent State University (1970) and is recognized as a leading specialist in Holocaust and Modern German history. His courses on World War II and the Holocaust are university favorites.

His research focuses on Nazi Germany, Holocaust studies, and the interconnection between military goals and systematic genocide during WWII. McKale employs historical analysis to examine war propaganda, leadership cults, and diplomatic relations.

McKale's scholarly works include the award-winning War by Revolution (recipient of the Charles Smith Award) which analyzes Germany and Britain's Middle East strategies during WWI. His publications demonstrate consistent focus on Nazi Germany's war mechanisms and historical mythology.

Honors include the Charles Smith Award from the Southern Historical Association. His research has been featured by major book clubs including History Book Club and Book-of-the-Month Club.
