Donald Kieffer

Donald Kieffer is a Senior Lecturer in Operations Management at MIT Sloan School of Management. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. His career spans over 30 years, including 15 years at Harley-Davidson as VP of Operational Excellence and co-creation of Dynamic Work Design, a methodology for sustainable process improvement. He advises global industries like oil/gas, medical, biomedical, and banking. Kieffer teaches Operations Management at AVT in Copenhagen and founded ShiftGear Work Design, LLC. His book (co-authored with Nelson Repenning) focuses on eliminating workplace inefficiencies.

Research interests include operational excellence, strategy deployment, and cross-industry applications of Dynamic Work Design. He has transformed production systems at a genomic sequencing firm and designs executive education programs on process optimization. His recent articles emphasize visualizing processes for knowledge workers and leadership strategies.
